Family, friends and fans all came in the wet weather to mourn the death of Chad "Pimp C" Butler, who many felt put Southwest Texas on the map. The services were held at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center in his hometown of Port Arthur, Texas where about 2000 people gathered.

Pimp C's mother, Weslyn "Mamma Wes" Monroe, stepped on stage to a rousing ovation. She wore a UGK T-shirt and looked out on the crowd for a while.

Finally, she said, "I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, I'm all right. And you'll be all right because he's all right."

She said her only son was in heaven now. "He got there and told them, 'The South is here.' "
