How happy are we that another African American male has won a golden man? Happy times in deed.
Forest Whitaker becomes only the
fourth African American to win the Best Actor Oscar, following
Sidney Poitier,
Denzel Washington, and
Jamie Foxx. That's not bad company!
"Receiving this honor tonight tells me that it's possible, it is possible for a kid from East Texas, raised in South Central L.A. and Carson, who believes in his dreams, commits himself to them with his heart, to touch them and to have them happen," Whitaker said as he accepted his award.
Though I must ask...does anyone else get ooged out by Forest? He makes me uncomfortable, he seems sweet as pie, but when he talked it's always a bit weird!
A Lil' Lagniappe: There have been only 11 African Americans nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, and a total of 16 nominations. [Sidney Poitier, Morgan Freeman, Will Smith and Denzel Washington have been nominated two or more times]
