After watching the finale of Making the Band, I am in no way shocked or surprised. I wasn't expecting D. Woods to end up out of the group, but I'm not surprised. I actually think she really got caught in the crossfire and got the boot for being guilty by association. I didn't know that their was so much tension between former BFFs Aundrea and Aubrey, though.


Here's the deal, when the Danity Kane's debut album came out, I was expecting a second album. I said it back in 2007 when the rumors around Aundrea started swirling. As much as I love them as a group, I wasn't confident in their success as a reality TV product on Bad Boy. I have my issues with Bad Boy and Almighty Puff Power because we all see how the other artists were eff'd over by that situation.


I have to agree with Diddy on the fact that Aubrey became a distraction. Making it how you live is all cool and ish, but she really changed - for the less attractive. The cliques and distrust was bound to hurt the group. So, what next?

In the interest of MTV, I can see them trying another round of MTB and following the remaining girls. As for Diddy, he's still a business man and he wants to put out music. I can see him entertaining the thought of bring the girls together again. He left that door open. Danity Kane as a three member group? I don't know, 2 of the 3 best vocalists are still there, but D. Woods voice can't be duplicated. Aubrey wasn't the best singer in the crew, so that doesn't hurt the group and they all can dance so that doesn't hurt either. It is possible to market these girls though. Almighty Puff Power could try to make them the next Destiny Child... I feel bad because it seems like the ones remaining really feel like they didn't have anything to "go back to." Aubrey as a solo artist = FAIL! D. Woods has potential but the clock is ticking.

Or how about this is really just the end of them as a group!? My bet is on this.

We welcomed five girls into our home on MTV's Making the Band, and with a ready made fanbase the group shot to number one and became a household name. However the road to a sophomore album wasn't as easy for Danity Kane. Rumors of breakups, breakdown in management and poor promotion, left the group vulnerable to being yet another casualty of reality television.

Lucky for these girls they have talent that surpasses the average pre-packaged record label product. So when I had the opportunity to chit chat to the home team chick Dawn Richard, I made sure to get the dish on everything from how she went from New Orleans HoneyBee to international pop star to how she really felt about working with Diddy. Dawn also gives you insight on their newest release Welcome to the Dollhouse which is available today. Plus, what's up with her and Que? What other reality show did she try out for? The sophomore effort of Danity Kane is a collection of futuristic sounds that lends itself to 70s and 80s grooves. A healthy set of songs, laced with a few artistic interludes, Welcome to the Dollhouse reintroduces a set of talented vocalists. From R&B to Pop, it is a well rounded collection that touches on fun and flirty, hot and steamy, and get up and dance tracks.

Back in the lab with producers Brian Michael Cox and Mario Winans from their debut release, they also worked with new hitmakers such as Stereotypes [“Damaged”], The Clutch [Mary J. Blige, Ciara] and Scyience [Jay Z, Beyonce]. The ladies were able to stretch their writing skills [and collect on those publishing rights] with tracks like “Strip Tease” and “Lights Out” and “Picture This.”

The ladies vocal acrobatics are fierce and blend so well on the album, while being able to maintain their individual sound. You’ll hear more from Shannon as well as Aubrey, and as always Dawn, D. Woods and Andrea stand out as homerun hitters. You can definitely hear a softer side of D. Woods. The move toward “International Pop” is very evident in choice of melodies and beats, there’s an infusion of dance, techno, and funk through out the album, especially in “Bad Girl” which features Missy Elliot and “Pretty Boy.” The group-penned “Strip Tease” is pop-friendly track that is dripping in sex. You won’t miss on their ability to produce a beautiful ballad with the beautifully dramatic “Is Anybody Listening.” The complex layering of voices is beyond the average girl group.

As with their debut, Danity Kane, you get a complete album and fans won’t be disappointed. This time around, I won’t be surprised when they go platinum.

D. Woods of Danity Kane, stepped out to cover the second of the King Magazine's double issue for March with her own Special Edition. As you may have read earlier, Danity Kane as a group cover the first one.

King Mag is definitely her key demographic, so I am sure the fellas are thankful for the double issue.

Okay...so at this point many people are probably thinking...what the hell is going on with Danity Kane [or maybe not, but humor me]...Are they breaking up? Down to three? Still together?! So here is the skinny on the Making the Band alum...

• Despite acknowledging the possible down size to a trio [sans D. Woods and Aubrey], the group is still a group, of five...
• The rumors of D. Woods and Aubrey leaving was news to the other members, they heard it like everyone else heard it...
• Where did the rumors begin? For most it was a rumor on The Wendy Williams Radio Show that D. Woods had left the group, possibly for another group called "The Girls Club." Then...
  
• Is Aubrey trying to be a Pussycat Doll? That is still yet to be answered, though I personally think Aubrey's chit chat with paparazzi was a bit shady and so we'll have to see how that unfolds...but that coupled with the D. Woods rumors made it evident the group was on the brink of the end...
  
• However, Dawn sent out a bulletin on MySpace titled "Rumors" that said:
  

"To answer all the rumors that's been out there about Aubrey and D. Woods pursuing their solo careers. We support them in their decision. However, myself, Aundrea and Shannon are choosing to continue in our efforts to make Danity Kane the best for our fans who love us and what we represent AND the respect we have for our group."

• That was later deleted and Dawn sent another bulletin titled "DK is Good to Go!"

"Sorry you guys were so confused!!hahahaha Danity Kane is together. We are good. We are supporting each other in all we do."

• D. Woods later posted a blog on her MySpace Page to clarify where the rumor may have come from as she says her sidekick didn't end a previous conversation and that led to someone hear her voice her frustrations with DK...but did reiterate that she hasn't left the group
  

So that brings us up to date and in an exclusive statement the group say they are ready to move on...

"Danity Kane is together. We have been supporting each other in all our endeavors and now are concentrating on the next album. Our fans are important and we want them to know we are fine and ready to move forward and would appreciate if the rumors would stop so we can move forward with great music."

There's clearly been some miscommunication among the group and with the poor promotions of DK by Bad Boy, the group is definitely facing a battle back to the top. Currently Dawn is writing new music for the next album...I hope they get it together because the talent is there, they have a huge fan base, and if given the amount of care as Press Play they can have another hit album...Check out these exclusive songs written by Dawn, produced by Adam Blackstone and Jim Johnsin [also produced Showstopper]...

Officially she (D. Woods) has not declared to Danity Kane that she has left. Either way expect great things from Danity Kane this fall.
